High SchoolMiddle SchoolCollege Counseling

At DGS, the College Counseling Office adheres to a policy of “best fit” and “quality of choice” when supporting

students during the college search and application process. Students are encouraged to embrace the college search as a meaningful learning experience, not a process to slog through.

The college counseling program at DGS is different from other high schools. Counseling begins in grade 9, and

1:1 meetings continue from grade 10 through grade 12. By starting in grade 9, DGS students and families are able to make more informed decisions about their academic pathways, future careers choices, the college search, and the application process. Students can expect support in all of the following areas:

  • Personality Assessments (G9)
  • Career & Interest Exploration (G9-10)
  • Profile Building (G9-11)
  • Standardized Test Preparation (G9-12)
  • Parent Workshops (G9-12)
  • Student Workshops (G9-12)
  • Academic Advising (G9-12)
  • College Search Guidance (G10-12)
  • Application Support (G11-12)

DGS students are expected to take ownership of their journey. The College Counseling Office will provide support and the appropriate resources, but students must navigate the college search and application process with diligence, independence, and maturity.
