Co-Curriculars

Research shows that creating close relationships between students and teachers in the school leads to more effective learning. Advisory’s guiding principle is to ensure that all students have a meaningful relationship with an adult and feel a sense of belonging to their community of peers.
Our number one goal is to make students feel loved and cared for by adults in the school. Each student at DGS is assigned an “Advisor.” Our Advisors are teachers, administrative leaders and teaching support staff who work closely with their Advisees. Through daily Advisory group meetings and one-to-one meetings, Advisors at DGS get to know their Advisees well.
Advisors develop a trusting and meaningful relationship as they learn about their advisees’ lives and interests. The advisor is also the student’s academic supporter and mentor. Individual attention and coaching helps students study and learn more effectively.
Advisory addresses a vast array of social and academic skills that support student success.
The Advisory Program aims to help students develop self-awareness, as well as developing a sense of purpose and community beyond self. Through Advisory, students learn to recognize their role in the local community and learn the rewards of participating in, and contributing to our local and global communities.
