On September 25th, as the Mid-Autumn Festival brought a festive atmosphere to communities across Vietnam, DGS also celebrated a joyful full-moon day of our own. Familiar Mid-Autumn traditions came together with new and creative experiences, making the day feel both familiar and distinctly DGS.

There were star lanterns, paper lanterns, traditional paper masks, and palm-leaf fans – little things that brought back the feeling of a Mid-Autumn Festival many of us grew up with. Some lanterns were a little wonky, some drawings a little messy, but that was part of the fun. When students made them with their own hands, they were not just making something to take home. They were also getting a chance to experience and carry on traditions that have been passed down through generations.

At another corner, Mid-Autumn took on a more modern feel, with board games, handmade bracelets, and a DGS-style version of the traditional Vietnamese game “U.” The old and the new came together naturally, giving everyone a chance to enjoy something familiar while trying something different.
Each student may have found joy in a different corner of the celebration, but in the end, everyone came together through laughter, stories, and time spent with friends and teachers. Because no matter how the way we celebrate Mid-Autumn changes, at its heart, it has always been about being together and sharing the joy of the season.

That was our Mid-Autumn Festival at DGS: nothing too elaborate, just a lively and cozy day filled with little moments to enjoy. And, of course, it wouldn’t have been complete without our very own homegrown “Ông Địa” duo, who made a surprise appearance with bags of candy for a little festive treat – and plenty of laughter along the way.

Mid-Autumn is just one small part of life at DGS. Throughout the year, students have many opportunities to learn, experience, and explore in different ways - both inside and outside the classroom. Each experience gives them another chance to try something new, connect with others, and discover more about themselves.
